Irrigation (Images 15, 16 and 19 Point to Movies. To view, Right click and download target, then view locally) Image 15 demonstrates how the condition of the soil is important. If there is little organic matter in the surface of the soil, irrigation water will just puddle and run off or be evaporated. The movie associated with image 16 is a forage crop being irrigated with a center pivot irrigation system. The water can infiltrate in crop fields with high organic matter content and good aggregate stability. The life in the soil created macropores that ensure good infiltration. The movie associated with image 19 illustrates the drying effect of tillage and the tendency for wind erosion and moisture loss as a result of tillage.
