NASIS Reports

  1. Interpretations:

    • Report Name: SoilView SOLIM Pipe delimited interpretation .001(pick)

    • Purpose/Use: Creates a pipe delimited file which facilitates:
      1. Linking of Raster data to coiid (Component key)
      2. Linking of Vector data to muiid (Mapunit key)
      3. Displaying of fuzzy interpretations using "ALLINTERPS" field
      4. Displaying of individual reasons by linking spatial data to fields corresponding to particular reasons.
      5. Will run on National or Local interpretations
    • Location: MLRA11_Office # 726 down from the top; # 58 from the bottom; 3rd up from the bottom of the S's
    • Limitations:
      1. Only finds the maximum value from the following fields: Very limited; Somewhat limited; Not limited; Not rated; Good; Fair; Poor; and Moderate.
      2. Fields using other interpretive terms are not recognized
      3. Geographic data generally is linked to a single value (User intervention needed to verify condition represented.)
      4. Selected set is critical. This report will run on either minor or major components, but the user must understand the database structure to create a meaningfull map
    • Status:
      1. Ready to use
      2. The report could be customized to include local interpretive classes
    • Example poster for Dwellings Without Basements

      Overlay simulation powerpoint (168 MB)

    • Rough set of directions to help create an interpretive map. Note that Web Soil Survey and Soil Data Viewer are other tools for making similar maps. They automate the process for you. These directions are helpful for picking apart interpretations and data for review.

How to join a table to ArcMap (draft) (1.2 MB)

  2. Reports for download of point data from NASIS to use in Analysis tools
  3. Other NGDC reports of potential interest

    • SoilView (NAT) Engineering
    • SoilView (NAT) Prime Farmland
    • SoilView (NAT) Property
    • SoilView (NAT) Water Features (one month at a tim
    • SoilView (NAT) Water Features (only april)
    • SoilView (NAT_chem) Property
    • SoilView (NAT) Classification
    • These are simply delimited files which include the muiid field for joining with the mukey of the spatial data. Many export reports from the MLRA11_Office site or other sites may perform the same function if the muiid is included.
    • These reports are located in MLRA11_Office site in alphabetical order.
